Son of Reginald Moore Auton and Lilla Moore from Esher; Surrey.

On May 31, 1942 crashed at 02:26 at De Bleek, near the Eindhoven-Wert highway a Handley Page Halifax II of the 10th Squadron down. The purpose of that night was Cologne, where a huge fleet of more than 1,000 bombers over 400 tons of casting to fire bombs. On the way some of these bombers was shot down over North Brabant. They crashed into Alem, Galder, Vierlingsbeek and Westelbeers and also in Maarheeze. The last aircraft was full hit by a German night fighter, flown by Wolfgang Hptmn Thimmig of III / NJG 1, and setting it on fire. Soon the signal was given to leave the plane.

Three crew members were killed: pilot Sgt Antony Reginald Moore (20); gunner Sgt Frederick Marshall English (27 RCAF) and tail gunner Sgt Fred Walker (33). The four others, navigator W / O Lionel Raymond Silver (24, also RCAF); radio operator Sgt H. R. Stacey; Flight Engineer Sgt D.L. Thurlow and gunner Sgt J.A. Ogden were captured by the Germans.

Ray Silver knew, incidentally remain from the hands of the Germans. Near the hamlet of Berg, near the border with Belgium, he found, soaked from the rain shelter with the family De Werd. With dry clothes, a good sleep and food for a few days, Ray moved on, towards Eindhoven. But after he had taken a bicycle in Wintelre to move forward more quickly, he was arrested by alerted police and handed over to the Germans. He has been in captivity until the end of the war.
