Thorpe was attached to No. 69 Sqn. (RAF), located in Gosport, Hampshire.
Thorpe was awarded the DFC order. The quote reads, for which he received this order: F / O Thorpe has proved many successful explorations, as night pilot.
During these flights, he always brought back valuable information
During a night attack his plane was hit by flak, so he got cut damage to his wing and became the aileron.
By skillful flying he brought his plane back to base.
On Wednesday, June 13th, 1945 deceased John Wilson Thorpe of injuries from a motorcycle crash that took place in Eindhoven three days earlier.
