On April 16, 1942 3:58 plunged to a Vickers Wellington IC of the 214 Squadron down near the Buntven. The bomber was shot down by a German night fighter of 1 / NJG 1 flew by UFZ Schienbein. The entire crew, composed from P / O L.M. Leech, P / O H. A. Short, Sgt J. Ward, Sgt P. Heppenstall, Sgt G.M.C. Turner and Sgt V.E. Egan, were killed.
