Son of Arthur and Mary Crook from Kirkham; Lancashire; Husband of Dorothy Crook from Kirkham.
On the 22th of june 1944 a Lancaster III bomber plane of the 44th squadron crashed near Riethoven, flown by P/O E.A Canty, an Australian. The plane came down in the Walikerheide, between the first Molenveld and Walik. If they would have crashed 200 metres further a disaster would have happened since it would have destroyed Walik.
Because nobody died in Riethoven during the second World War the pastor of that time decided to build 4 Maria Chapels as monument, but there never was a monument for the 7 soldiers that died during the Lancaster III crash. But this is going to change because on the 22th of june 2019 a monument will be revealed for the soldiers that died near Riethoven. There is a monument where Scott is listed in his place of birth as well.
The remainder of the crew exists of radio telegraphist F/O W.M. Crook, Bombardier Sgt E. Norris, navigator f/o J.R. Vowles (An Australian), flight mechanic Sgt R.E Clay, and the gunners F/Sgt L.J. McCoy (Australian) and Sgt E.G. Scott. They all died during the crash. The bomber plane in which they were flying, was shot down around 00.50 by German Junkers Ju-88 from 4/NJG 3, Flown by Olt H. Leube and StFwbl F. Druschke and Fwbl E. Scheve as crew. This plane had taken off 15 minutes beforehand from the Welschap which was the predecessor of Eindhoven Airport.
This bomber plane was part of a mission to Germany to try and bomb a complex of factories in Gelsenkirchen, which were used to make synthetic petrol from coal. From the 123 Lancasters that took part in the bombings 8 were shot down above Brabant, they also crashed in Boxtel, Drunen, Helvoirt, Macharen, Nuenen, at Werkendam in the Biesbosch and in Westerhoven.
The students, Dennis Leroux & Hugo Zwiep, of the Stedelijk College in Eindhoven conducted research and found the above findings.
