History / Relationship to the 18 September Foundation
Immediately after Eindhoven was liberated on 18 September 1944, there were spontaneous commemoration activities in the city. The population of Eindhoven participated enthusiastically. The precursor of the 18 September Foundation already took part in this. Since that time every year in September the citizens of Eindhoven participate fully in the commemoration activities, even after more than seventy years. Since 1946 the 18 September Foundation is an important element in Eindhoven’s social and cultural life in commemorating the liberation of the city.
The 18 September Foundation gave rise to the thought of developing initiatives to ensure that the memory and stories of our liberators should not be lost. This resulted in the incorporation of the Graves Foundation.
